AC Brotherhood Headset problem?

I have a ps3 and when I play a private match I can't hear my friend. He also has a headset. I saw a video on youtube where 2 guys were playing a "Manhunt" game and it was just the 2 of them. they could speak w/ each other and everything. They played on x-box though. Why doesn't it work for my friend and I?
