How's this for a superhero?
I just thought of this the other night. A planet on the verge of a civil war. The royal family's safety is at stake. The emperor and empress sends their son on a course towards Earth to protect him from the other faction, who is trying to kill him, as he is heir to the throne. On Earth, his ship lands in an open field, and a couple find him and raise him as their own, naming him Michael. He grows to manhood, and he develops powers--flight, superhuman speed, and superhuman strength. Only his adoptive sister knows his secret. He goes to find his birth parents, but he soon learns that the civil war is over, and the other faction has destroyed the planet, and is now desolate and dead. Everyone on the planet is killed in the genocide, and bits and pieces of the planet's fragments float freely in space. He then returns to Earth and vows to be its champion, calling himself The American Wonder. He starts his superhero career in college, and then, becomes a reporter.
